Greenville is a city in Butler County, Alabama, located between Fort Deposit and Georgiana along Interstate 65.

The movement to change the Official Alabama State Flower to the camellia originated in Greenville and thus Greenville is often referred to as the Camellia City. Its name is derived from the forests of oak trees that reminded immigrants of their former home in South Carolina.

The locals here are proud of their historic downtown business, residential districts and wide variety of retail and commercial offerings. The city’s industrial manufacturing base is diverse, from wood products and steering wheels to textiles.

Greenville was the town featured in the 2007 film Honeydripper. The film was shot in and around Greenville in late summer and fall of 2006. Local residents were selected as principal characters and extras and the main street of historic downtown was featured.

Attractions here include a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, Cambrian Ridge, in which the clubhouse sits on the highest point in Butler County. Sherling Lake Park and Campground has 41 campsites and surrounds two lakes. Greenville however, is probably most known for its Watermelon Jubilee. More than 12000 people attend annually to enjoy this local arts and crafts event. Amongst the free watermelon, spectators can participate in Official Watermelon Jubilee Olympics and the Little Miss Watermelon Jubilee.
