Jasper is a city in Walker County, Alabama named after Sergeant William Jasper, a Red Stick War hero. Although Jasper was settled in 1815, it was not incorporated until 1888. Two major railways, the Kansas City-Memphis & Birmingham and the Sheffield & Birmingham Railroads, impacted on Jasper in 1886. With freight and access ways opening this city up to the rest of Alabama, Jaspers population boosted from 200 people to more than 3,000 in 1890.
