Prattville is a city in both Autauga and Elmore counties in Alabama.
Prattville was founded in 1839 by industrialist and architect Daniel Pratt. Pratt first observed the Autauga Creek in the 1830s and purchased approximately 1,000 acres to build his manufacturing facilities and town. This excellent location was chosen because the creek could supply power to the cotton gin manufacturing equipment, developing the town into a rapidly growing industrial centre.
Before Prattville was nicknamed "The Preferred Community," it was known as "The Fountain City". This was because of its numerous artesian wells, many of which still produce gallons of sweet, free-flowing clear water daily. A great place to learn more about these wells is at the Prattaugan Museum/Heritage Centre. Numerous interesting artefacts’ from the Pratt Family, as well as old newspapers, books and other items housed within this 1840 Greek-revival house.
Capitol Hill is said to be the crown jewel of the Robert Trent Jones golf trail, and here the Navistar LPGA Classic golf tournament is held annually on Capitol Hill's Senator Course.
