Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in Alaska. It is the southernmost town on the contiguous Alaska Highway system and also part of the Alaska Marine Highway (the Alaskan ferry system).

Locals claim that a massive spit built out into the middle of the bay is the furthest most west point accessible via road on the North American continent. Known as Homer Spit, tourists can enjoy this area year round; however shops at the end of the spit generally close around mid September and re-open in April.

Tourists and locals alike are attracted to the flocks of bald headed eagles that nest and feed along Homer spit. A walk along the spit allows a close up experience with these incredible birds in their natural habitat. Skyline Drive is also a popular way to view the Spit in all its scenic beauty.

Jean Keene, known as “The Eagle Lady”, fed 200 to 300 bald eagles about 500 lbs. of fish daily. She used surplus fish from the Fishing Plant where she worked to feed the eagles from the time of her arrival on the spit in 1977 until her death in 2009. Jean was known around the world for her generosity and efforts to care for the Homer eagles.

A regional airport is available on the coast and offers the services of two local air taxis and scheduled flights to Kenai and Anchorage. Homer constructed its first traffic light in 2005 and is often given the nickname "the end of the road".
