Juneau is a City and Borough located on the Gastineau Channel in the panhandle of Alaska. The city is named after gold prospector Joe Juneau and has been the capital of Alaska since 1906. The Tlingit name of the town is Dzántik'i Héeni which translates to the "river where the flounders gather”.

Juneau and has an economy based on government, tourism, mining, and fishing. Tourists are spoilt for choice with an array of outdoor adventures and activities available. The Glaciers in Juneau are spectacular. The most popular of these is Mendenhall Glacier which is about a half mile wide at its widest point with ice 300 to 1,800 feet deep, and it is still moving. This glacier however is just one small part of the larger Juneau Ice field where countless glaciers including Taku, Eagle, and Herbert can be experienced. There are many tours available travelling by land and by air.

Juneau International Airport is the only airport here and it provides a variety of International and Domestic flights.
