Apache Junction is a city in Maricopa and Pinal counties in Arizona. It is located 35 miles east of Phoenix in the South central part of the state.
The Superstition Mountains lay to the east are a federal wilderness area and home of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. The Goldfield Mountains are in the north and are home to the Bulldog Recreation Area. The large city of Mesa lays to the west. Superstition Mountain is the westernmost peak of the Superstition Mountain Range, and lends its name to many of the city’s businesses and activity centers.
The Lost Dutchman Gold Mine is said to be a very rich gold mine hidden in the Superstition Mountains but due to the land being designated a Wilderness Area mining is restricted and the facts now are spoken more like a myth.
Apache Junction takes its name from the junction of the Apache Trail and U.S. Highway 60. Its base population sits at 42,000 but swells to 77,000 during the winter season. It is a desert community that derives much of its revenue from sales taxes.
The city’s facilities include an award winning Multi-Generational Recreation Center, a City Hall complex, a library and excellent athletic facilities at Prospector Park. There are a total of 51 RV parks in Apache Junction.
