Globe is a city in Gila County in Arizona. It is located in the heart of Arizona's magnificent Tonto National Forest and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain vistas in the Southwest.

Globes history is in mining and the city is supposedly named after a globe-shaped piece of pure silver found nearby. The prospectors that arrived in the area constructed a rough fort in late 1869 at Big Johnny Gulch; 2 miles north of what would later become Globe. This was done because the prospectors began to be harassed by Apaches. Although gold was never found here, silver was, and in 1870 it become one of the richest mineral districts in the US. Once the market became saturated with silver, Globe turned its focus towards copper mining. This is still a profitable and major enterprise of Global today.

Globe has remained a frontier town and sits in an isolated position more than 100 miles from nearby cities. It is adjacent to the San Carlos Apache reservation. The world’s largest deposit of Peridot is found in San Carlos. Known as the August birthstone, "Heart of the Earth" and "Stone of the Sun,” Peridot jewelry is crafted locally by artisans and jewelers and sold through several outlets here. With both warm and cold water fisheries available all year round, anglers can enjoy regularly stocked lakes for trout, bass, channel, catfish, crappie and bluegill fishing.

Globe has two popular festivals. In April locals and visitors commemorate the Copper Dust Stampede Days. This celebration includes a parade, dancing and festive barbecue. The Apache Days Festival is held each October where the Apache "Jii” transforms downtown Globe into a street full of spectacular works of art and Native American cuisine. Also on display and for sale are Native American arts, crafts, clothing and food. Visitors can enjoy strolling through this historic town or driving the Apache Trail.
