Nogales is a city and the county seat of Santa Cruz County, Arizona. It is located in on the southern edge of Arizona and is the state’s largest international border town. Its sister town, Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, lies on the southern side of the border. Agribusiness and produce distribution make up most of Nogales economy with much patronage derived from Nogales, Sonora.

The city is named after the Spanish word for walnut, being that the area was once abundant is walnut trees. Around the parks and in the mountain pass between the sister-cities, huge walnut trees can still be seen.

Nogales is rich in history and has historic buildings such as the Old City Hall built in 1914 along with its shops that date back to the early 1900s. The county of Santa Cruz and the city of Nogales have 200 properties listed in the National Register of Historic Sites.

The Cave of the Bells is a magnificent underground cave with a warm lake known for its unique and varied formations. Although it has been thousands of years forming, it is extremely fragile and therefore closely protected by the locals. The Onyx Cave is also in the Santa Rita Mountains. Its formation is unique with a series of passageways and rooms that honeycomb an outcropping of limestone, formed from the remains of tiny sea creatures deposited in layers over many years. Water entered and gradually enlarged tiny cracks within the limestone to create the spectacular caves that are available to view today.
