Tucson is a city in and the county seat of Pima County in Arizona. It is located 118 miles southeast of Phoenix and 60 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border. It sits along Interstate 10 at an elevation of 2,389 ft above sea level on the Santa Cruz River. The river which was once a perennial river is now a dry bed for most of the year.

Tucson is surrounded by five mountain ranges: the Santa Catalina Mountains and the Tortolita Mountains to the north, the Santa Rita Mountains to the south, the Rincon Mountains to the east, and the Tucson Mountains to the west. Mount Lemmon is the highest point of the Santa Catalina Mountains and is known as the southernmost ski destination in the continental U.S. An abundance of saguaros, the large cactus that is native to the south western area of the United States, grows up to 60 ft tall and can be seen through Tuscan.

Attractions in downtown include the Hotel Congress, the Art Deco Fox Theater, The Rialto Theatre and St. Augustine Cathedral. Shopping is a popular pastime along the 4th Avenue Shopping District, the Lost Barrio and the Main Gate Square on University Boulevard. Retail outlets display a variety of unique and fashionable wares.

Tuscan enjoys it festivals and events and each February holds the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. Rather than being held in one location, this show spreads across dozens of sites across the city and features many fine mineral specimens to more than 50,000 people from over twenty countries. Museums and universities, including the Smithsonian Institution and the Sorbonne, have displayed materials at the show and cater to the interest of beginners, collectors and professionals.

Each May for the past 25 years the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association has hosted the Tucson Folk Festival in El Presidio Park. The Festival shows over 100 local and regional musicians across five stages in one of the largest free festivals in the country. Included in the celebrations is song writing workshops, events for children, sing-alongs, singer/songwriter contests, food and crafts as well as local micro-brews.
