Wickenburg is a town in Maricopa County in Arizona. It is located in Central Arizona north east of the Phoenix Metropolitan area, just 60 miles northwest of Downtown Phoenix. American prospectors turned to searching for minerals throughout central Arizona after the 1862 gold strike on the Colorado River. Henry Wickenburg was a German prospector that was literally rewarded in gold when he discovered the Vulture Mine. Over $30 million in gold has been dug from this mine and the town since has carried his name.

Today, Wickenburg portrays its historic western town roots in its architecture, businesses and residents way of life. Surrounded by the classic beauty of Arizona and the Serona desert, Wickenburg offers a peaceful lifestyle. It is favoured for its clean air, good country living, western hospitality and all-around high quality of life.

Keen birders are drawn to the area to view over 280 species of birds. The best place to view these is at the Hassayampa River Preserve. This picturesque land is owned by The Nature Conservancy and stretches five miles along the Hassayampa River. The river runs most of its pathway through the desert beneath the surface and is invisible except for the cottonwoods and willows tracing its flow. The birds here nest in and around the Preserve and are easily observed in this peaceful location.

3 days Gold Rush Festival is held each February drawing tens of thousands of visitors. Entertainment includes live music, contests and western shows, horse and cart rides, hot air ballooning, horse riding, arts and crafts and festive foods.
