Arkadelphia is a city in and the county seat of Clark County in Arkansas. It is located at the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains in the south western part of the state beside Interstate 30.
Arkansas's first industry was salt works and the Arkadelphia site was settled by a nearby works operator John Hemphill in 1809. It was known as Blakelytown until 1839, when the settlement adopted its present name of Arkadelphia, likely a combination of the state name with Adelphia from the Greek, meaning brother/place.
Outdoor activities are popular and both the city and environment provides every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Feaster Trail is a paved and lighted trail that spans the length of the city and is used by joggers, walkers, bikers, and roller bladders. Lake DeGray and the Caddo and Ouachita Rivers are all just minutes from the city centre and offer a range of social and water activities. Hiking through the Ouachita National Forest, fishing and camping are popular Arkadelphia pastimes and the parks have amenities that accommodate this.
Feaster Park covers78-acres with picnic areas, playgrounds, outdoor basketball courts, restrooms, softball fields, a pavilion and a family water park that is open during the summer months. The Arkadelphia Aquatic Park was built to accommodate all ages and provides excellent facilities. These include water slides, floating play pieces, fountains and a variety of shallow water play equipment for small children. For the serious swimmer there is a lane pool and diving platforms, and for the families there are grassy areas to picnic and sunbath upon.
