Bentonville is a city in and county seat of Benton County in Arkansas. It is located in the North western most part of the state on the Interstate 71. The city was named after Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri and is known for being home to the world headquarters of the largest retailer in the world, Wal-Mart.
Attractions in Bentonville include the Peel Mansion, Historic Gardens and the Civil War Era Mansion.
History is immaculately preserved in the mansion built in 1875 by one of Arkansas's most influential early politicians, Colonel Samuel West Peel. An amazing collection of law books is displayed in an elegant library and the tour takes you through to the upper level of the mansion where fully furnished bedroom suites are on view, just as they were in 1860's. Weddings and receptions are popular in the beautiful gardens amongst picturesque flower beds, massive oak trees, and a featured waterfall.
Bentonville’s newest and largest attraction is a planned $50,000,000 museum. Crystal Bridges is a glass-and-wood building designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie. This museum will have a series of pavilions nestled around two creek-fed ponds that will house galleries, meeting and classroom spaces and a large auditorium. The collections on display are composed of American paintings and sculptures from the Colonial period through the modern era. Sculpture and walking trails will link the museum’s 100-acre park and gardens to downtown Bentonville.
