Conway is the county seat of Faulkner County in Arkansas. It is a principal city of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area and is the second fastest growing city in Arkansas. Conway is nicknamed "The City of Colleges” due to being home to three postsecondary educational institutions.

The City of Conway was founded by Asa P. Robinson, the chief engineer for the Little Rock-Fort Smith Railroad. Robinson made a town site around a train depot and named it Conway Station, in honor of a famous Arkansas family. The Station contained two small stores, two saloons, a depot, some temporary housing and a post office. Today Conway is the central gateway to the Ozark Mountains and a favourable destination for tourists on their way to such places as Branson, Eureka Springs, Mountain View, Murfreesboro and Hot Springs.

Since 1982, Conway has hosted and celebrated the “Toad Suck Daze” festival. The three day community festival is held each May and incorporates live music, food and craft vendors, a 5/10K Toad Run, Toad Pageant, Business Expo, a Toad Store, and the World Famous Toad Races held in the Toad Dome. Proceeds from the festival go towards college scholarships given to local students. Over 150,000 people attend this free family oriented festival every year.

The largest Game and Fish Commission in the city is at the 6,700 acre Lake Conway. This popular sport-fishing destination offers some of the best largemouth bass, crappie, gar, catfish, bream, bowfin in Arkansas.
