Fayetteville is a city in and the county seat of Washington County in Arkansas. It is located in the north western part of the state off Interstate 71.

Fayetteville is known as the "Track Capital of the World" due to the University of Arkansas' track and field program, which has won more than 40 national championships. The University of Arkansas first held classes in February 1872 and made headlines when it became the first major Southern public university to admit an African-American student without litigation. Silas Hunt of Texarkana, an African American veteran of World War II, was admitted to the university's School of Law in 1948. Today the University is noted for its strong architecture, agriculture, creative writing, history, Middle Eastern Studies and business programs. It also has a long and strong sporting culture.

The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks is the result of a volunteer-led, grassroots effort to create spectacular gardens to service and educate the community. The Gardens officially opened to visitors in October 2007 and today offers a mix of classes, workshops, and lectures appealing to beginning and advanced gardeners and to those who simply admire the beauty of the natural world.
