Jonesboro is a city in and one of the two county seats of Craighead County in Arkansas. Craighead County was formed in 1859 and the city of Jonesboro took its name from State Senator William A. Jones who supported the legislature for the formation of the County. Originally spelt Jonesborough, the city developed into the regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education, and trade that it is today. Over time the name has became shortened to its present day spelling. Today Jonesboro is a modern city that provides entertainment, education and recreation to its visitors as well as creating a modern serviced community for its residents.

Arkansas State University sits atop 800 acres on Crowley's Ridge. The Jonesboro campus is a public university and the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System. It is the state's second largest college system, third largest university by enrolment and celebrated its centennial year in 2009. In 2006 The Mall at Turtle Creek opened and became the fifth largest mall in Arkansas. The main anchor stores are JCPenney, Dillard's and Target, and they are accompanied by more than 70 other popular retailers including Barnes & Noble and Bed Bath & Beyond. The mall is fashioned upon a "Main Street" look with 100 stores arranged along two sides of the mall facing each other. A pedestrian walkway lines each side and wind around various vendors occupying the mid-aisles. The entire mall stretches over a 73-acre plot, and is a favourable shopping destination.
