West Memphis is the largest city in Crittenden County in Arkansas. It is considered part of the Memphis metropolitan area, and is located directly across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee.

West Memphis was officially incorporated in 1923. Due to vast resources of massive old growth forests surrounding the area, the lumber industry became the fuel that pushed the young town of West Memphis into the twentieth century. The availability of river and rail transportation transformed West Memphis into a manufacturing and distribution hub for the county and the population continued to increase until West Memphis had become the largest city in Crittenden County.

West Memphis is better known today however, for its original Blues music. This can be felt in the city’s downtown area, Broadway. More than 84 stores and restaurants line the main street and the entertainments are still growing. Broadway hosts the city's "Blues on Broadway," celebrations showcasing famous blues singers of today and previous generations.
