Huntington Beach is a city in Orange County in the state of California. It is located on the western coast of the state less than an hour drive from Los Angeles. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the southwest, by Seal Beach on the northwest and by several major metropolitan cities on the north, east and southeast such as Long Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana.

Huntington Beach is known best for its 8.5-mile beach and excellent surfing reputation. It is often referred to as "Surf City" or the "Surfing Capital of the World" due to its consistent quality of surf and the city plays host to the surfing world championships every summer. The waves are a unique natural effect caused by edge-diffraction of ocean swells by the island of Catalina, and waves from distant hurricanes. The Huntington Beach Pier stretches from Main Street into the Pacific Ocean and ends with a Ruby's Diner.

The Surf Theatre owned and operated by Hugh Larry Thomas from 1961 until it was demolished in 1989, gained fame in the 1960s and 1970s for showing independent surf films such as The Endless Summer and Five Summer Stories. The International Surf Museum has preserved its memory with a permanent exhibit featuring vintage seats and screening of surfing movies once shown at a Huntington Beach theatre. The International Surfing Museum resides in Downtown Huntington Beach beside a colourful shopping district and an active art centre.

Between Downtown Huntington Beach and Huntington Harbour lies a large marshy wetland, much of which is protected within the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The Reserve is popular with bird watchers and photographers.

Many of the events at Huntington Beach are focused around the beach during the summer. A few of these are The U.S. Open of Surfing and Beach Games, the AVP beach volleyball tour, Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard day camps and a biathlon hosted by the Bolsa Chica & Huntington State Beach Lifeguards. Oktoberfest, Halloween, a Labour Day War re-enactment and a Jazz festival are just a few of the celebrations that bring Huntington Beach it’s exhilarating atmosphere.
