Oakland is a city in and county seat of Alameda County. It is the eighth-largest city in the state of California and a major West Coast port. It is located in the middle of the coast of California in the Bay area. Within close proximity to the city are several other major metropolitans such as San Jose, Berkeley and San Francisco Bay, which is only about 8 miles west. The terrain is referred to as having two distinct areas, the flatlands and the hills. Creativity through fire and light in spectacular open-air exhibitions embrace interactive fire art. Live performances are varied and the largest collections of outdoor fire sculpture on the West Coast are on display. Other popular festivals held within the city include the Oakland Greek Festival, Temescal Street Fair, The Laurel Street Fair, Germanfest and the Black Cowboy Parade.
