Arvada is a Home Rule Municipality in Jefferson and Adams counties in the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area in the state of Colorado. It is located 7 miles northwest of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver.

Gold was first discovered in the Rocky Mountain region in 1850 by Lewis Ralston, a Georgia prospector, who was heading for the California gold fields. The stream from which he found a 1/4 ounce of gold was named Ralston's Creek in his honor; however he left the area the next morning drawn on by the promise of the Californian gold fields. Ralston returned to the area in 1858 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Some of the miners returned to farm the rich bottom land along Ralston Creek and Clear Creek. The farms in the valley expanded to feed the growing population of the region and the Town of Arvada was formally incorporated in 1904. By the end of the millennium, the population of Arvada exceeded 100,000.

Today Arvada is a vibrant agricultural community claiming the title "Celery Capital of the World." Although Arvada is largely a commuter town to Denver and Boulder it has its own strong traditions, attractions and festivals.

The Arvada Harvest Festival holds the honor of being the second longest continuous running festival in the State of Colorado and provides old time traditions with an emphasis on free and affordable activities for all. Lovers of Chocolate are draw together annually to celebrate the sweet indulgence at A Chocolate Affair. This festival offers chocolate tasting, a chocolate treasure hunt, a chocolate therapist, balloon tying, face painting, carriage rides, and lamp post hearts.

Other events include the Festival of Scarecrows, Holiday Craft Fair, Independence Day Celebration, Kite Festival, Tartan Days, Trails Day and Wines for the Holidays Wine Tasting.
