Brighton is a Home Rule Municipality in Adams and Weld counties in the state of Colorado, and is the county seat of Adams County. It is located outside of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area , yet is often considered a suburb of Denver.

The southwest side of the lake is home to a bustling rookery with over 200 nests. Wildlife displays and educational material can be found at Barr Lake’s Nature Center.
