is a town in and the county seat of Douglas County in the state of Colorado. It is located on Interstate 25, 28 miles south of Denver and 37 miles north of Colorado Springs and is part of Colorado's Front Range Urban Corridor. It sits in the East Plum Creek Valley at the base of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 6,202 feet and is known for having one of the most favourable climates in the state, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year.

Although settlers were originally drawn to the area by rumors of gold, it was the discovery of rhyolite stone that ultimately led to the settlement of Castle Rock. It is named for the prominent castle tower-shaped butte situated centrally within the town, just north of Castle Rock’s downtown area. The original train depot that brought the Denver and Rio Grande Railway to the area remains today as the Castle Rock Historical Museum. Visitors can view the history of how Castle Rock and surrounding area has changed over the years.

Castle Rock is within the Colorado Foothills Life Zone. This area has a plethora of wildlife living amongst the rolling hillsides and large meadows. Juniper trees and open Ponderosa Pine woodlands are home to the American Badger, American Black Bear, Bobcat, Coyote, Colorado Chipmunk, Gray Fox, Mountain Cottontail Rabbit, Mountain Lion, Mule Deer, Pocket Gopher, Porcupine, and Skunk. Birds that can be found in the area include the Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Black-billed Magpie, Red-tailed Hawk, Pinyon Jay and Western Tanager.

Devils Head Lookout is a U.S. Forest Service accessed by hiking on the Devils Head National Recreation Trail. The original tower was built in 1912 on a large pinnacle of Pikes Peak granite and is used as a fire lookout point in the Pike National Forest. The view from the tower extends at least 100 miles in every direction on clear days and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
