Evergreen is a census-designated place in Jefferson County in the state of Colorado. It is located 15 miles west of the City and County of Denver. Evergreen is surrounded by blue spruce and pine forests. Residents enjoy mild winters and summer temperatures range from the high 70's to the low 80's. The low humidity and high altitude means there is little need of screens in the summer, due to a lack of flies.

As the state’s capital Denver increased in size through the 1800 and 1900s, so did the demand for building materials and lumber. Evergreen embraced this desire by 1880 was home to six operating sawmills and over 200 residents. Improvement of roads and electrical services spurred further growth and the town became a popular summer destination for Denver residents.

Evergreen is surrounded by thousands of acres of land in the Denver Mountain Parks and Jefferson County Open Space park systems. Evergreen Lake Park is a 40 acre lake, 1 acre park with picnic tables and grills, wetlands, an observation boardwalk, a 1.3 mile long trail and a historical boat/warming house. It is nestled in the foothills at the end of Evergreens Main street. The lake offers canoe and paddle boat rentals in the summer and the mile long walking path around the lake present wildlife, wildflowers, and even elk sightings. In winter months the lake becomes a skating centre and skate rentals, hot chocolate and snacks are available at the log lodge at the end of the lake. It's also lit for night skating.

The Old Boat House was originally built in the 1930's and later upgraded after fire damage. The newly designed Boathouse located on the south side of Evergreen Lake and used for the District's boating program during the summer and reserved as the "warming hut" for events through the winter. The lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout and fishing is allowed with a licence.

Evergreen is considered one of Colorado's hidden treasures. It is a popular day escape offering an array of parks, art galleries, theatre, restaurants, entertainment, and more. It is known for its all-season recreational activities and is a popular residence for Denver commuters.
