Golden is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat of Jefferson County in the state of Colorado. It is located along Clear Creek at the edge of the foothills of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Golden was established as a gold-rush town and founded during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in 1859.The settlement was named Golden City in honour of Thomas L. Golden and quickly became a leading economic and political center of the region.

Golden is home to The Colorado School of Mines which offers programs in engineering and science. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the National Earthquake Information Center, the Coors Brewing Company, CoorsTek, Spyderco, the American Mountaineering Center, and the Colorado Railroad Museum also reside here.

The Splash at Fossil Trace Aquatics Park offers family fun for all. The facilities include 2 twisty-turning body & tube-riding water slides, an activity pool complete with fountains, wading areas and a 500 gallon dump-bucket, beach-like sand areas, a spray fountain play area for young children and plenty of lawn, sun chairs and relaxation spaces.

The Fossil Trace Golf Course has been designed by Jim Engh and offers every level of player a challenge that is unique and rewarding. The golf course opened in 2003, 64-million years after the first dinosaurs walked where holes 11 through 15 now sit. Triceratops footprints, as well as other prehistoric creatures’ fossils can be viewed as you move through the course, including the life-size copy of a triceratops skull that greets you as you enter the clubhouse, affectionately called “Teri”. Just inside the main doors is an exhibit that details the rich history of the property and shares information about the dinosaur tracks and other important fossils uncovered on the site.
