Greenwood Village is a city in Arapahoe County in the state of Colorado. It is a prominent suburb of the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area and a Home Rule Municipality. It is located 8 miles south of the state capital in central north Colorado.

The first settlers in this region were Native Americans. Prospectors were drawn to the area in the 1860s with the desire of finding gold however slowly developed the area into farmlands and orchards. Cherry, apple, plum, apricot, and pear trees covered the land in the early 1900s and the town was named for Cyrus G. Richardson who operated the successful Greenwood Ranch.
