Hayden is a Statutory Town in Routt County in the state of Colorado. It is located in north-west Colorado along the U.S. Highway 40 at an elevation of 6,337 feet above sea level. Hayden sits in the Yampa River Valley between Craig and Steamboat Springs less than 200 miles north-west of the state capitol Denver.

Historically Hayden began as a center of coal mining and agriculture. It was named for Ferdinand Hayden, a surveyor who explored western Colorado during the late 19th century. Today Hayden consists of a small cluster of homes and businesses. The people of Hayden are numbered under 2000 and interestingly, Hayden is known for having more men than similar towns.

About 69% of housing units in Hayden are owner-occupied and tend to be of newer construction within the town centre. Hayden has a local school, Hayden High School, which has a role of about 150 students. The town also has a public Library.
