Louisville is a Home Rule Municipality in Boulder County in the state of Colorado. It is located about 6 miles east of Boulder and 25 miles northwest of Denver.

Louisville has a rich history in mining. The first coal mine in the Boulder and Weld counties was known as the Northern Coalfield. Mining generally took place in winter months since that was the period that demanded fuel for heating. During the summers the miners played in local baseball leagues, with the home field named "Miners Field."Mining peaked in Louisville through 1907–09 supporting twelve operational, including the Acme Mine whose two million tons of coal came from directly beneath the center of town. In the 1950s, once the remaining coal became uneconomical to mine, the last mines closed permanently. The town of Louisville made a transition to suburban residential community.

Today Louisville is situated so close to Denver and several other thriving cities, that residents and visitors are able to access a plethora of modern facilities and recreational activities. Coal Creek Golf Course offers an exceptional golf experience for players of all abilities with breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. Dick Phelps designed this18-hole golf, par-72 course measuring just over 7,000 yards.

The heart of the City lies in Historic Downtown. Century old wooden buildings, along with over 100 businesses including restaurants, pubs, unique retail and a wide variety of professional services line the Main and Front streets. The museum and library are also located here. Winter Skate holds outdoor ice-skating and each summer brings swimming and bocce ball in Memory Square Park. Downtown hosts a Faire every Friday evening through the summer from 5 to 9pm. There is great live music, food, artisans, children's activities, and a wonderful small town vibe. This free event is held under shade tents and food and beverages are available.
