Northglenn is a Home Rule Municipality in Adams and Weld counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. It is located in the Denver metropolitan area 1 mile north-west of Thornton and 10 miles north of Denver.

Northglenn was a planned community, designed to have separate industrial, commercial, recreational and educational areas, surrounding a regional shopping complex. More than 10,000 residents and over 3,000 homes had been established here by 1962 and Northglenn was granted the status of a city in 1969. The Butterfly Pavilion is top on any list of Northglenn attractions. The Pavilion provides food and shelter for butterflies and other invertebrates as well as excellent opportunities for visitors to learn about gardening and biology. More than 150 different species are on show at any given time from the Zebra Longwings to Paper Kite butterflies. Insects are the most diverse group of animals on the planet and hundreds of different kinds of insects are on display. A Crawl-a-See-Em interactive display allows visitors to crawl through and view arachnids including spiders, scorpions, harvestmen, ticks, and mites. You can touch a variety of invertebrates including Horseshoe crabs, sea stars and sea urchins at the Butterfly Pavilion's Water's Edge. Visitors can wander through a tropical rainforest and explore a short grass prairie in a matter of minutes.
