is a Home Rule Municipality in Garfield County in the state of Colorado. It is located is 137 miles west of Boulder and 149 miles west of Denver along the Colorado River just east of the Roan Cliffs on Interstate 70. These cliffs dominate the western skyline of the town.

Local legend tells of a trapper of the late 19th century who accidentally left his rifle along the creek. The area took on the name, was founded in 1882, and incorporated in 1905.

Today Rifle is a regional center of the cattle ranching industry and the downtown centre blends modern facilities with the feeling of the old west. A variety of sculptures emphasise this, from an elk welcoming visitors at the entrance to a cowboy riding a trout.

The beautiful landscape that surrounds Rifle is ideal for a magnitude of outdoor recreational activities. Hunting for elk and deer is as popular a pastime here as is fishing, camping, horseback riding, hiking, and mountain biking. Other attractions in Rifle include Rifle Mountain Park, Rifle Branch Library, Frontier Historical Museum and Aspen Highlands.

Residents of Rifle are in close proximity to Colorado Mountain College, Colorado North-western Community College, and Mesa State College.

Rifle has a local Framer’s Market held each Friday night from June through to September in Metro Park. Vendors and produce vary but typically include a diverse selection food and wine, crafts, produce, live music, competitions and classic car showing.
