Sterling is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous city of Logan County in the state of Colorado. It is located 80 miles east of Greeley and 106 miles north-east of Aurora.

The town was named by railroad surveyor David Leavitt after his home town of Sterling, Illinois. French fur trappers frequented this area starting in the 19th century, on their way to the fertile beaver trapping areas of the Colorado Mountains. Sterling today is the largest city in north-eastern Colorado and the city provides quality amenities for its residents. It is the major shopping hub for most of north-eastern Colorado and hosts stores like Wal-Mart, the Home Depot, and J. C. Penney. Sterling is also a regional center for health care, and is the home of the Sterling Regional Medical Center.

Attractions in Sterling include two beautiful golf courses, Riverview Golf Course and the north-eastern Eighteen and the Overland Trail Museum, which houses an eclectic mix of historical items and a restored local schoolhouse. The Overland Trail Recreation Area features a 5-acre fishing pond as well as biking trails, fishing, picnic tables, BBQ grills, walking path and a fishing pier. The North Sterling State Park is situated just a few miles northeast of the city on the North Sterling Reservoir. This man-made lake has three state of the art boat ramps, three modern camping areas as well as multiple picnicking sites. Superb swimming, boating, waterskiing, camping, and fishing make this park a quality recreational destination.

The Stirling Recreation Center features an indoor pool with diving well and an outdoor pool which includes several water features including a Multi-Play 5 and three slides. A double flumed slide entertains the adventurous water player whilst beach entry to the water and a wading pool is suitable for junior swimmers. This family friendly park has plenty of picnic tables and chairs and shady relaxing spots.
