Telluride is a town and the county seat of San Miguel County in the state of Colorado. It is located 173 miles west of Colorado Springs in the south-western portion of the state. Telluride sits in a box canyon at an elevation of 8.750 feet above sea level. Steep forested mountains and cliffs surround the town with Bridal Veil Falls sitting at the canyons head.

The town history lies in mining. Telluride's mines were rich in zinc, lead, copper, silver, and gold, which was first discovered here in 1858. The town was named after the chemical element tellurium, which is sometimes associated with deposits of gold and silver however was never actually found in the mountains of Telluride. Folk lore suggests that Telluride is a contraction of "to hell you ride”.

Bridal Veil Falls is a 365 foot waterfall overlooking Telluride that offers exquisite hiking and off-road opportunities. Trails wind past the falls and climb to the power plant at the top. The plant was originally used to power the Smuggler-Union Mine and is the second-oldest operating AC generator in the United States. This two pronged waterfall freezes over in winter, challenging ice climbers and creating a stunning sight for onlookers.

Telluride is known today for its ski resort and slopes during the winter as well as an extensive festival schedule during the summer. For the past 30 years the festivals hosted by Telluride have evolved into internationally renowned events. They range in variety from arts and music to outdoor pursuits, and from culinary and scientific to athletic rallies. The Telluride Film Festival is known among film and music enthusiasts for attracting the best filmmakers and musicians in the world. The Blues & Brews which is held each September it signifies the start of fall colours and the coming of ski season. Other long-standing festivals include the Mushroom Festival, the Imogene Pass Run, Bluegrass Festival and Jazz Celebration.
