Trinidad is a city in Las Animas County in the state of Colorado. It is located 75 miles south of Pueblo and 116 miles south of Colorado Springs. Trinidad's sits at the foot of Raton Pass along the Santa Fe Trail. This pass between St. Joseph, Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico has long been a favoured route for travellers. The Interstate 25 which takes its place today is the most highly-travelled route between Colorado and New Mexico. Trinidad was named from the Spanish word for 'trinity' and was officially incorporated into the state in the year 1879.

Former home of the famous Prairie Land and Cattle Company, Trinidad was one of the towns where travellers raised hell in the Old West. Trinidad was home to many of the miners who worked in the Raton Basin south and west of the town until the coal mines eventually closed, but since the 1980s Companies have re-established and new gas wells have been drilled. Today Trinidad is a popular tourist destination offering an assortment of recreational opportunities. The Trinidad/Carnegie Public Library offers a lot of information about the historical and cultural background of the city. Attractions in Trinidad and its surrounding areas include Trinidad History Museum, Trinidad Lake State Park, Trinidad/Carnegie Public Library, Capulin Volcano National Monument and the Taos Ski Valley . The Trinidaddio Blue Fest is organized every year by the residents of Trinidad entertaining crowds with live music and festive food and refreshments.

Trinidad Lake State Park is located in the foothills and is a wonderful place to relax and establish a base camp from which to explore the great outdoors. Multiple trails wind through ancient and interesting local history, and are popular routes for hikers. With Trinidad’s mild climate and large lake water sports are plentiful. Anglers catch rainbow and brown trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, crappie and bluegill.
