Wheat Ridge is a Home Rule Municipality in Jefferson County in the state of Colorado. It is a western suburb of Denver and located only 5 miles west-northwest of the Capitol.

Wheat Ridge was founded by prospectors in 1859. The settlement was primarily a farming community that supported Denver and nearby mining communities. The town took its name from its main crop grown, Wheat. Wheat Ridge became the largest producer of carnations worldwide until the mid-20th century.
