Woodland Park is a Home Rule Municipality that is the most populous city of Teller County in the state of Colorado. It is located 16 miles north-west of Colorado Springs and is immediately west of El Paso County. Woodland Park sits at the eastern intersection of U.S. Highway 24 and State Highway 67 and is a bedroom community that is surrounded by the one-million acre Pike National Forest..

Cal Elder, a long term resident of Woodland Park, has nicknamed Woodland Park the “City above the Clouds”. This name was influenced by the clear skies of the city, unlike that of the surrounding areas.

The economy of the city began in saw milling, but now is based heavily on tourism. More than 50 miles of trails provide a 5,000-acre playground through Mueller State Park. Wildlife enthusiasts love visiting this Park and regularly sight elk, black bear, hawks, and mule deer. Hikers, mountain bikers and lovers of winter sports traverse the park’s numerous trails on foot, snowshoes, cross-country skis, and horseback and mountain bikes. 132 campsites are scattered through the park, with 16 of these are open for winter camping .

Woodland Park and nearby Attractions include Mueller State Park, American Numismatic Money Museum, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, Woodland Park Public Library and Arapahoe Basin. The local festivals include the Mountain Art Festival and the Oktoberfest held during the months of July and September, respectively. Woodland Park is also the home of the Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center which showcases exhibits related to dinosaurs and fossils.
