Bethel is a town in Fairfield County in the state of Connecticut. It is located about sixty miles from New York City and 2 miles south east of Danbury in south-west Connecticut.

Bethel was first settled in by Europeans in the early 1700s. Several of the original houses built at that time are still here and are located at Grassy Plain Street. The core area of the town center has been designated as a historic district and several buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Some of these include the John Jay Homestead Historic Site, Danbury Museum and Historical Society, Military Museum of Southern New England, Beardsley Zoological Gardens, Captain's Cove Seaport and Parloa Field.

The name "Bethel" means "House of God” as for 96 years, until its secession in 1855, Bethel was a parish of Danbury. Today the town of Bethel offers some amazing recreational facilities. The Beardsley Zoological Gardens are an exciting and educational place to spend the day. The zoo features more than 300 animals representing primarily North and South American species, including the Amur tiger, Andean condor, Ocelot, Red wolf, Andean bear, Maned wolf, and Golden lion tamarind. There is a free-flight aviary set in an American rainforest and a New England Farmland which houses goats, sheep, pigs and other barnyard critters.

The Captain's Cove Seaport is located on Historic Black Rock Harbour and surrounds an active maritime and amusement center. There is no admission fee on this bustling pier where people gather to eat, socialise and even dance to local bands.

Bethel is also home to the Quassy Amusement Park. This affordable family fun park has been operating for more than 100 years and shares a multitude of exciting and fun-filled attractions. The Quassy Park also specialize in catering private parties for school, church, camp, sporting & corporate events.
