Cheshire is a town in New Haven County in the state of Connecticut. It is located in the midst of several major Connecticut cities. The capital Hartford sits only twenty-five miles southward whilst Meriden is only 5 miles south-west. To the north of Cheshire are several bustling cities such as Berlin, Bristol and Hartford, and 76 miles north-east is New York, New York. Cheshire is part of the New Haven - Meriden metropolitan area and due to its ideal position allows its residents and visitors a plethora of modern facilities and business opportunities.

Europeans originally settled the town in 1694 as part of the town of Wallingford, known locally as "Northfarms". Cheshire became its own separate small but prosperous farming town in 1780. A strong agricultural base formed that would carry the town for many decades. New Haven residents began moving outwards from the urban core in the post-war period and Cheshire grew accordingly to accommodate the influx of residents. Residential development and industrial plants grew significantly and to this day remain a major contributing factor in Cheshire’s economy. Today Cheshire has found an economic niche in producing bedding plants for local and national consumers, giving the town the nickname "The Bedding Plant Capital of Connecticut".

The Barker Character, Comic and Cartoon Museum is a unique museum located in the northern section of Cheshire. Characters from television, cartoons and comics are replicated onto lunch boxes, Pez dispensers, novelties, memorabilia and much more.

Cheshire has several parks as well as several recreational and entertainment programs which are regularly organized by the Parks and Recreation Department. Other attractions in and around Cheshire include Cheshire Golf Course, Willowbrook Farms, Cheshire Town Park, Quinnipiac Recreation Area and Hubbard Park.
