Ellington is a town in Tolland County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 9 miles north of Manchester and 78 miles south-west of Boston, Massachusetts. It takes approximately ten to fifteen minutes to drive to either the Interstate 84 or Interstate 91 from most places within Ellington. The town is included in the Hartford metropolitan area.

A community of Jewish immigrant farmers settled in Ellington area in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Their first synagogue, Congregation Knesseth Israel, is still standing and used today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Ellington remains an agricultural town and a great amount of property is dedicated to agriculture including cattle and corn farming.

Ellington recorded one of the fastest growth rates amongst all Connecticut towns at the turn of the 21st century. Today it remains a rapidly growing community however is changing from a rural farming town to a bedroom community. An example of this change was represented in the independent film entitled The Supermarket. The displacement of the locally owned Ellington Supermarket by competition from the regional Big Y supermarket chain happened when a new Big Y was built adjacent to the older supermarket.

The Talcott Mountain State Park is spread over an area of 557 acres. It has an observation tower and also offers facilities for hiking, picnicking and hang gliding. A 1.25 mile trek up Talcott Mountain to the Heublein Tower offers breathtaking views. The area was incorporated into a state park in 1974 and the tower has undergone some restoration since. From the top of the tower Simsbury, Sleeping Giant Mountain, Hartford, Bloomfield, and Wethersfield can be seen.

Other attractions in and around Ellington include the Nellie McKnight Museum, Sadds Mill, Nathan Hale Homestead and Kimballs Brook.
