Farmington is a town in Hartford County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 4 miles north-west of New Britain and 90 miles north-east of New York, New York. The town is considered part of the Hartford metropolitan area. Farmington sits in central Connecticut in the United States.

Farmington is the oldest inland community west of Connecticut River and also one of the oldest settlements in the state. A European settlement was established by Hartford residents in 1640 and the town was incorporated and named in 1645. Settlers found the area ideal because of its rich soil and location along the floodplain of the Farmington River. The town has had a distinct abolitionist community, which aided in the escape of slaves.

The Town of Farmington is also known as the "Mother Town" because its vast area was divided to produce nine other central Connecticut communities. Today Farmington is a residential suburb comprising of 28.7 square miles along the Farmington River. It has retained its distinctive character through maintenance of its historic districts and careful land use planning for the future.

The town is home to the University of Connecticut Health Center, which employs over 5,000 people and houses the John Dempsey Hospital. The hospital provides the only full-service emergency department in the Farmington Valley and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit one of only two in Connecticut.

Farmington offers high quality services, open space, residential housing and commercial properties from the Farmington Valley Greenway where you can walk or bike the scenic trails, to first class art at the Hill-Stead Museum. Other attractions include the Day-Lewis Museum of Indian Artefacts, Stanley-Whitman House, Lake Garda, Copernican Observatory & Planetarium, Farmington Club Polo Grounds and the Shade Swamp State Wildlife Area.
