Guilford is a town in New Haven County in the state of Connecticut. It is located on the Interstate 95, 12 miles east of New Haven, Connecticut and 77 miles north-east of New York, New York. The town is part of the New Haven - Meriden metro area and borders Madison, Branford, North Branford and Durham.

Reverend Henry Whitfield accompanied a group of English Puritans in 1639 and negotiated with the local Native American sachem, Shaumpishuh, for a tract of land in the area known then as Menuncatuck. Rich local fields and orchards allowed the small colony to prosper and the town changed its name to Guilford after a town in England. The construction of the Connecticut Turnpike in the 20th century synergised the development of the town.

Today Guilford has a small, historic, charming atmosphere highlighted by its rustic character and continuing development of commercial and industrial areas. It has a large collection of historic homes including buildings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Five historic house museums include Dudley Farm and the Henry Whitfield House which are the oldest dwelling house in Connecticut and the oldest stone house in North America respectively. The Comfort Starr House, which was constructed in 1645, is one of the oldest wooden framed private dwellings in Connecticut.

Numerous boutique shops, antique markets and art galleries surround the central Green and several of the historical museums displaying Guilford's heritage and within walking distance. The town also hosts celebrations like the Guilford Fair and the Little Folks' fair every year.
