Madison is a town in New Haven County in the state of Connecticut. It is located in the south-eastern corner of the county on the Connecticut Shoreline area. Madison sit 17 miles east of New Haven and 81 miles north-east of New York, New York. The town is part of the New Haven - Meriden metropolitan area.

Madison was first settled in 1641 but known as East Guilford until it’s incorporation in 1826. The town was named in honour of President James Madison.

The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library was a gift from Mary Scranton in 1901 to the people of Madison. The building was designed by the architect Henry Bacon, who later designed the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This popular library features 114,000 volumes, operates over 800 programmes each year and currently has an average of 360 visits per day. The 1989 expansion allowed the library to include a child’s area, main entrance and adults section. The library also acts as the towns information centre, a learning and resource facility, an exciting environment for children’s programs and art exhibits, and a gathering spot for community organizations.

Popular tourist spots in Madison include the beautiful lakes, brooks and water banks parks. Along with several inner city parks, visitors and residents can enjoy a range of recreational activities. Hammonasset Beach State Park is the state’s longest beach and ideal for those who love water sports, camping, picnicking and pier fishing. This park is so sought after that beach lovers through summer cause major traffic jams along the Interstate 95. In addition, the Arts Festival is held every July and draws crowds from neighbouring towns and cities.
