North Stamford is a very affluent, geographically large section of Stamford in Fairfield County in the state of Connecticut. It is located just north of Stamford in the south-western corner of the state. The town benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns that it shares the Connecticut coastline with.
High Ridge Road, in the area just south of the Merrit Parkway, is the largest shopping district near North Stamford. A shopping plaza and some surrounding stores are also nearby on Newfield Avenue, and downtown Springdale also offers nearby stores.
Several educational attractions can be located just a short distance from central North Stamford. Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens is a 91-acre botanical gardens and science education center boasting over 850 specimen trees and plants from around the world. It is also home to several Champion Trees; the largest of their species within Connecticut.
The Stamford Museum and Nature Center spread over 118-acres at the northern end of town and offers a collection of works by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, who once resided in Stamford. The Centre’s education programs are designed to inspire creativity, foster self-discovery, and nurture an appreciation for lifelong learning. The programs take place both on- and off-site and embrace the wonders and workings of art, nature, and agriculture, using many of the centres own resources, including the pond, farm, forests, planetarium, and art galleries. The Stamford Observatory also sits on the Museum grounds, was founded in 1936, and has been operating since 1965. The Observatory has a 22-inch telescope and is run by The Fairfield County Astronomical Society.
