Oxford is a town in western New Haven County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 9 miles south of Waterbury and 65 miles north-east of New York, New York.

The community, now known as Oxford, was formerly a part of Derby. The settlement began as a collection of farms and was established as a separate ‘parish’ in 1741. In 1798 the town became incorporated and held its reputable standing through agriculture and operating different kinds of mills along the waterways. The area was named after Oxford, Massachusetts.

Today the town is bisected by Route 67 that begins in Woodbridge and ends in New Milford. Route 188 runs through the Quaker Farms section of town. Oxford used to be a very rural town with a moderate farming population yet has prospered by a large population increase from 1985 to the present day.

Several Museums are available to residents and visitors of Oxford. The Knights of Columbus Museum, the Military Museum of Southern New England, Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Indian Well State Park, Lock Museum of America, the American Clock & Watch Museum, the Danbury Railway Museum, and the Railroad Museum of New England are just to name a few. Numerous parks offer space for recreation, playground and picnicking opportunities and include Black Rock State Park, Lake Waramaug State Park, Wharton Brook State Park, and Huntington State Park. The 10.4-mile Larkin Bridle Trail, created in the 1940s from the path of a former train track, is one of the earliest examples of the "rails-to-trails" movement.

The nearest shopping malls to Oxford are the Brass Mill Center in Waterbury, Westfield Shoppingtown in Trumbull, Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, and the Danbury Fair Mall. Local churches include Saint Thomas Church, Great Hills United Methodist Church, Christ Church, and Oxford United Church of Christ and each year in August the town come alive at the Oxford Peach Festival.
