Shelton is a city in Fairfield County in the state of Connecticut. It is located in south west Connecticut just 6 miles in north of Milford and 61 miles NE of New York, New York. The city benefits from easy access to the nearby cities and towns that it shares the Bridgeport metropolitan area with

The area of Shelton was settled by the English as part of the town of Stratford in 1639. It was separated from Stratford in 1789, and named Huntington. Edward N. Shelton founded the Shelton Company and Ousatonic Water Power Company and in 1860 a small manufacturing village developed and took on his name. The rapidly growing borough of Shelton incorporated as a city in 1915 and was consolidated with the town of Huntington in 1919 establishing the present City of Shelton.

Today Shelton offers much to its residents on outdoor recreation and entertainment amenities. There are over 15 miles of hiking trails in Shelton, including a portion of the Paugussett "Blue Blazed" trail. With these trails come opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, walking and biking.

There are two private golf courses in town. Highland Golf Club of Shelton was founded in 1900 and is located in the downtown area. This 9-hole course has a 1920's clubhouse and has a challenging par 68, 5250 yard mixed layout of hilly terrain and target golf. The Brownson Country Club is an 18-hole venue located in the Huntington section of Shelton. This clubs claims to have one of the area’s most challenging 18-Hole Championship Golf Courses. Originally laid out by Albert Zikorus and redesigned by the award winning Cornish, Silva & Mungeam, the course plays to par 70 with a slope rating of 130. Other features include an Olympic Sized Pool, Kiddies-Pool, Cabana and Snack-bar, banquet or meeting venues and a Pro Shop on site. There is an annual competition between the clubs for the "Mayor's Trophy", alternating the venue each year.

Shopping is close by at the Huntington Village Center Shopping Center, Edwards Shopping Center, Woodside Plaza Shopping Center, White Hill Shopping Center, Shelton Square Shopping Center and Mariahs Way Shopping Center. Other nearby attractions include the Housatonic Meadows, Indian Well State Park, Connecticut Children's Museum, Beardsley Zoo, State of Connecticut Monument House Museum and the Quassy Amusement Park.
