Southington is a town in Hartford County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 5 miles north-west of Meriden, 82 miles north-east of New York, New York, about 20 miles southwest of Hartford and is part of the surrounding Hartford metro area. Southington is also part of Connecticut's 1st congressional district. Southington resides between two mountains on its east and west sides in a valley which the Quinnipiac River flows through. This picturesque setting with its various streams, ponds and lakes makes Southington an attractive place for relaxation, pleasure and work.

Southington's first white settler was Samuel Woodruff. He moved from Farmington to the area then known as Panthorne that was settled in 1698. As the settlement grew and the population increased, the area came to be known as South Farmington and then was shortened to Southington. In 1779 it was incorporated as a town.

Though Southington was a small, rural farming community, it developed into a manufacturing center in the early 1900s. It’s most popular inventions from that time include the first carriage bolt cutting machine, the break-neck rat trap, a new tin-ware process and the first cement able to harden under water. Today it carries the nickname “The Apple Valley” due to amount of Orchards that scatter through the valley and exists mainly as a bedroom community.

Since 1969 Southington has been home to the Apple Harvest Festival. The festival draws thousands of visitors from far and wide and generally spans six weekdays and two weekends. This family oriented festival kicks off with a Parade on the fist Sunday and ends with Arts and Crafts fair is on the 2nd weekend. Activities include local entertainment, variety of contests, music, a children's play area , carnival and a wide variety of quality goods and tasty food.
