Stratford is a town in Fairfield County in the state of Connecticut. It is located on Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Housatonic River, 3 miles east of Bridgeport and 53 miles north-east of New York, New York. The town is considered part of the Bridgeport metropolitan area.

Reverend Adam Blakeman, accompanied by several families, left England in search of religious freedom as part of the Great Migration in the 1630s. They settled in the Connecticut area and founded Stratford in 1639. Blakeman ruled Stratford until his death in 1665. The following generations however sought to change the religious dictums of their elders, and by the late 17th century, the Connecticut government had assumed political control over Stratford.

Stratford offers outdoor opportunities such as the Boothe Memorial Park. 30-acres rolling parkland contains the original Boothe homestead and an eclectic assortment of buildings collected by the Boothe brothers and their friends during their lives. Long Beach and Russian Beach are also popular recreation destinations to visitors. Short Beach offers three picnic pavilions, a skateboard park and courts for basketball, volleyball, softball and tennis.

One of the must see attractions in Stratford is the National Helicopter Museum. The museum was founded in 1983 by Dr. Raymond Jankowich and Robert McCloud, and is a non-profit museum focused on the history of the helicopter and American aviation industry. Housed in the eastbound railroad station building of the Stratford station of the Metro-North Railroad, the Museum collects and exhibits images, objects and a photographic history of the helicopter, along with many models. Experimental helicopters by inventors such as Igor Sikorsky, Dr. Anselm Franz at Avco Lycoming, Leonardo da Vinci and George Cayley are documented and displayed alongside developmental components like the boomerang and Chinese tops to early motorized experiments.

Other attractions in and around Stratford include the Boothe Memorial Park & Museum, John A. Minetto State Park, Capt. David Judson House, Garbage Museum, Beardsley Zoological Gardens, Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk and the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge.
