Vernon is a town in Tolland County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 3 miles north-east of Manchester and 81 miles south-west of Boston, Massachusetts. The town also is in the Hartford area.

Vernon was incorporated as a town in 1808. It is said to have been named after George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, Virginia. Its foundations were in textile manufacturing, mainly due to several mills being built by early settlers along the Tankerhoosen and Hockanum rivers. The town of Vernon and city of Rockville consolidated as a town on July 1, 1965. Today Vernon also contains the smaller villages of Talcottville and Dobsonville.

The Town of Vernon is strategically placed in “New England's Knowledge Corridor”, sitting 15 minutes east of the Connecticut capital of Hartford, and 25 miles from the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. The residents of Vernon benefit from easy access to some of the top colleges and universities in the county, including University of Connecticut and Trinity College.

Vernon is the birthplace of former professional football player and four time Super Bowl champion Bill Romanowski and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer Gene Pitney grew up in the town and obtained the stage name: "The Rockville Rocket."
