Watertown is a town in Litchfield County in the state of Connecticut. It is located 4 miles north-west of Waterbury and 74 miles north-east of New York, New York. The town is also included in the Waterbury metropolitan area. It borders the towns of Woodbury, Middlebury, Litchfield, Plymouth, Bethlehem, and Thomaston.

The land on which Watertown sits today was originally bought in 1684 by Thomas Judd and 35 other proprietors from the Paugasuck Indians. Watertown was formally a part of Westbury but became an independent town in 1780. Watertown today includes the section known as Oakville. Oakville has its own post office and ZIP code and is often mistaken for a separate town, however it does not have a charter or town government of its own.

Watertown and nearby attractions include Crestbrook Park Golf Course, Watertown Historical Society, Old Burying Ground, Black Rock State Park, Railroad Museum of New England and the Lock Museum of America. The Watertown Recreation Department maintains several of the town’s parks and provides a host of facilities. The department also arranges various special events and activities through the year.
