Windsor Locks is a town in Hartford County in the state of Connecticut. It is located on the Connecticut River 11 miles north of Hartford and 85 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. The town is situated within the Hartford metropolitan area.

Windsor Locks was originally known as Pine Meadow. It was officially incorporated as the Town of Windsor in 1854. The town’s name comes from a set of canal locks on the river. The locks were opened in 1829 and formed part of the Enfield Falls Canal circumventing nearby river shallows.

Hartford County has a rich history in Tobacco farming. Local farmers grew tobacco for the two outside layers of cigars, the binder and the wrapper, and by 1700 were exporting their product to European ports via the Connecticut River. The use of Connecticut shade grown leaf as a cigar wrapper began in the 1820s and had very strong effect on the economics of the valley towns. Thousands of young people and millions of dollars flourished in Winsor and its surrounding areas. Adjustments to the methods and products and the general decline in cigar smoking has reduced the Connecticut Tobacco designated acreage from a high of 30,800 in 1921 to just 2000 acres today. Today visitors can see visit exhibits of early and modern growing equipment, as well as photographic and historical documents exhibits at the Connecticut Valley Tobacco Museum.

Several places in Winsor locks are on the National Register of Historic Places offering visitors an insight to the area’s history. Several well facilitated parks in the area provide opportunities for varied recreational activities. The Dexter Corporation was established in this area in 1767 and is the oldest corporation listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Windsor Locks is home to Bradley International Airport and the New England Air Museum. One-third of the town's area consists of the airport. Attractions in and around Windsor Locks include Noden-Reed Park, New England Air Museum, Northwest Park, King House Museum, Penwood State Park and the Airways Golf Course and Country Club.
