Middletown is a town in New Castle County in the state of Delaware. It is located 22 miles south-west of Wilmington and 45 miles south-west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The town is adjacent to the Wilmington - Newark metropolitan area.

Historically Middletown began as a small Tavern shop situated on Old Cart Road. This roadway stretched across the peninsula between Bohemia Landing and the Appoquinimink Creek in Odessa. Due to this central position, when the tavern developed into a small community it took the name Middletown. The town of Middletown was incorporated in the year 1861.

Middletown is known as the fastest growing area in Delaware. A great number of land annexations and a growing number of affluent housing developments have surrounded the town's center in the past few decades. This current town growth is attracting new residents from as far as Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York City. This type of suburban sprawl is unlike the areas historical growth and has sparked growth in Middletown's commerce with new retail and food chains setting up throughout the town. The construction of a second high school, Appoquinimink High School, which opened in 2008, is one of the more recent developments taken to resolve increasing population.

Middletown is home to the Annual Olde Tyme Peach Festival. Celebrations each August centre around Main Street and include activities for children, a local artists exhibit, historical exhibits, a peach pie contest, crafts, music, food, games, and lots and lots of peaches. Other annual community events include the M.O.T. Big Ball Marathon and Hummers parade.
