New Castle is a city in New Castle County in the state of Delaware. It is located 6 miles south of Wilmington and 29 miles south-west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the head of Delaware Bay, on the Delaware River.

New Castle was originally settled in 1651, under the leadership of Peter Stuyvesant on the site of a former village named "Tomakonck". Due to having such a desirable location on the Delaware River, ownership of New Castle was constantly changing during the 17th century. Flags of the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain all flew through the town. With change of ownership came change of name and New Castle was only known as such since 1664.

New Castle most celebrated tradition dates back to 1927. "A Day in Olde New Castle" is usually held on the third Saturday of each May and tours of historical homes, churches, and gardens run through the city. Householders dress in colonial costumes and all profits raised go toward the maintenance of historic buildings.

The city is coloured by its lush greenery and boasts beautiful and historical architecture. Three museums inform visitors of the unique and distinct stories about the towns past and its residents and the New Castle Historical Society celebrates New Castle's diverse history from the town's 17th century founding through the preservation efforts of the 21st century. The city is the home of the first dyke built in the United States. Broad Dyke was built by the Dutch in 1655 as the center of the twelve mile circle that forms the arc that marks the northern state line.

Delaware State Parks are known for having exceptional trails, ponds, beaches, forests and fields. Visitors can enjoy staying in romantic resort cottages and visiting historical sites such as the Mt. Pleasant Meeting House, Indian River Life-Saving Station, Fort Miles Historical Area and more recently the state-of-the-art marina at Indian River.
