Smyrna is a town in Kent County in the state of Delaware. It is located 31 miles S of Wilmington, Delaware and 50 miles SW of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the central-northern part of the state. It is part of the Dover, Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The first settlement in Smyrna was on Duck Creek’s southern bank in 1716. The small village was named as Salisbury, however, residents still referred to it as Duck Creek. Farmers, merchants, and shippers formed a permanent community here in 1755 and in 1806 the Delaware Assembly changed the name of the town to Smyrna.

Smyrna is known as the "Jonquil City". This refers to the thousands of jonquils that flourish in gardens and along the streets in early spring. A vast array of amenities for residents and businesses are located within the city including parks, jogging trails, pools, lighted tennis courts, golf courses, day camps, sports and recreational activities, summer concerts and family events on the Village Green.

Smyrna has excellent access to several different methods of conveyance. It is near three interstates and intrastate highway systems and several principal arterial roadways also pass through the municipality. There are two major railways, four airports and a bus transit system all found within an 18-mile radius of the City.

Smyrna is proud of its historical background. The city contains over 490 buildings that are registered on the National Register of Historic Homes. A popular tourist attraction choice is The Smyrna Museum. The Museum is located in the heart of Smyrna in a replica of the 1910 Smyrna Train Depot. The collection includes thousands of photographs, publications, artefacts, oral histories as well as historical and genealogical research materials dating back to 1832. The Plank House resides behind the museum and is one of the finest examples of a local structure from the early 1700s. Other major tourist attractions of the area include Woodland Beach, Smyrna Municipal Park, Bannister Hall, Lums Pond State Park, Biggs Museum of American Art, the Smyrna Opera House, Blackbird Forest and Bombay Hook.
